Reddit is putting more limits on old.reddit.com

  As a quick reminder:

  First there was Reddit, which had an API, a mobile version (i.reddit.com) and a desktop one.

  Then there was the redesign, after which there was new reddit, old reddit (old.reddit.com), and mobile reddit.

  Then they removed mobile reddit.

  Then they restricted the API.

  Then they made old reddit available for logged-in users only, which they are now restricting even more.

  It's obvious that they're slowly boiling the frog until there's only one bloated interface left.

    Why are you still there? Even if you are the 1% still on Old Reddit, you are looking a site created by the 99% on the app (or New Reddit). And that's why it has become a wasteland of image posts and inane 180-character quips. Conversation has declined even on more serious subs because the new interfaces hide most comments from uses by default.

    Use redlib. It's crazy how much better the interface is than both old and new reddit.

    I had a 2005 (launch year) Reddit account. I deleted it when the API shenanigans happened and haven’t looked back. I have my browsers all set up to redirect Reddit.com to a Redlib instance. I will never visit or participate in the site again.

    My biggest regret is that I didn’t anonymize & overwrite all my comments, so AI fuckery has access to them forever.

    Because it's still a big hunk of traffic, and moderators report relying on it (it loads significantly faster). They have bolded text relating to moderators in the annoucement: https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/1wubgvt/continuing...

    It has been a godsend. The new design is bad in all the ways that most modern designs are bad: lots of needless padding, ads everywhere, poor information density. After they effectively killed third party apps, old.reddit.com has been the last bastion of a design intended for power users.
